Prime Minister Narendra Modi accepted the 'Guardian of the Blue Horizon,' Seychelles’ most prestigious environmental accolade, during his State visit to the island nation. He dedicated the award to countries actively engaged in addressing the urgent challenge of climate change and promoting environmental stewardship for the benefit of future generations.
Expressing gratitude to the Government and people of Seychelles, as well as President Patrick Herminie, Modi emphasized the global nature of climate challenges. He reaffirmed India's commitment to sustainable development through domestic and international initiatives, highlighting programs such as Mission LiFE—an effort focused on lifestyle changes to support environmental conservation—and multilateral collaborations like the International Solar Alliance and the Coalition for Disaster Resilient Infrastructure.
The recognition reflects Modi's longstanding emphasis on green growth and sustainable policies. Over the years, he has accumulated more than 30 international honors spanning state decorations, academic awards, and environmental commendations, marking him as one of the most internationally recognized Indian leaders.
During his three-day visit to Seychelles, Modi also held bilateral talks with President Herminie at the State House, complementing his ceremonial welcome, which included a Guard of Honour. This engagement underscores the growing diplomatic and environmental cooperation between India and Seychelles.
