Israel has decided to transfer arrested members of the Global Solidarity Flotilla to Greece, shifting course from an initial plan to detain them within Israeli territory. The flotilla was intercepted while carrying humanitarian aid bound for Gaza. Arab media reports indicate that Israeli authorities had originally planned to hold 175 detainees in Israel before reaching an agreement with the Greek government to redirect them instead. The Israeli Foreign Ministry confirmed that the individuals will be disembarked on the Greek coast within hours.
The decision marks a diplomatic development following the flotilla's interception in international waters. Pakistan's Foreign Minister Ishaq Dar issued a statement condemning the action, characterizing the seizure of the vessel and detention of activists aboard as a breach of international law.
The Global Solidarity Flotilla's interception and the subsequent detention of its members have drawn scrutiny from diplomatic and human rights circles, with the transfer arrangement now placing the question of the detainees' legal status and treatment under Greek jurisdiction rather than Israeli authority.
