Fiat has entered the U.S. market with the 2026 Topolino, an electric vehicle (EV) priced at $13,995 before destination fees. This ultra-compact EV is tailored for slow-speed, local travel, positioned between a traditional car and a neighborhood cart. At launch, its top speed is limited to 19 mph, making it suitable primarily for short trips in controlled environments such as gated communities, resort areas, and downtown districts.

To address regulatory constraints, Fiat plans to offer a dealer-installed Street Legal Conversion Kit expected in fall 2026. This kit will increase the Topolino’s maximum speed to 25 mph, enabling it to qualify as street-legal on roads with speed limits of 35 mph or less. Until then, the vehicle’s limited speed targets specific use cases where maneuverability and size matter more than highway capability.

Compact dimensions define the Topolino’s design: under 100 inches long and approximately 55 inches wide, it fits comfortably into most urban parking spaces. The vehicle runs on a 5.4-kWh lithium-ion battery, delivering an estimated maximum range of up to 46 miles on a single charge. Charging time from a standard home outlet is around five hours, aligning with its short-range urban role.

Fiat offers two versions for the U.S. market: the closed-door Topolino and the open-style Topolino Dolcevita, which features rope doors and a roll-up soft top. Both are intended for city dwellers, younger drivers, families, and those seeking sustainable transportation for short, local trips. Some jurisdictions may allow driving by individuals as young as 14, depending on local regulations.

The Topolino name recalls Fiat’s historic 1936-1955 “Topolino” model, a beloved compact car from the company’s past. The introduction of this new electric Topolino marks a strategic step in Fiat’s electrification efforts, offering an affordable EV option that sacrifices conventional vehicle performance for urban practicality and cost efficiency.
