ChargePoint has partnered with Onvo to introduce ultra-fast electric vehicle (EV) chargers at a dozen travel plazas along major highways in Pennsylvania and New York. This initiative aims to address gaps in highway EV charging, improving convenience for drivers on long-distance routes.

The first phase will roll out ChargePoint’s Express Plus DC fast chargers at Onvo travel plazas located along heavily traveled corridors. ChargePoint’s modular platform can deliver up to 500 kW of power, allowing multiple EVs to charge simultaneously by sharing a common power system. Furthermore, these chargers support both CCS1 and the Tesla North American Charging Standard (NACS) connectors, accommodating a broad range of EV models.

Onvo operates a network of 42 travel plazas and convenience stores, primarily concentrated around highways 80, 81, and 78 in Pennsylvania, as well as highway 90 in New York. These plazas offer food, shopping, and other traveler amenities. Adding EV charging capabilities aligns with Onvo’s strategy to adapt to the increasing presence of electric vehicles on U.S. roads and better serve EV drivers.

While the companies have yet to specify exact construction timelines or opening dates for the upgraded charging sites, they emphasize the significance of this collaboration in enhancing EV infrastructure along busy highway routes. The partnership aims to make EV road trips more viable by providing reliable, high-performance charging options in strategic travel locations.
