BYD unveiled its new Denza Z electric supercar, boasting a combined output of 1,582 horsepower from three electric motors and a price tag under $200,000. Positioned as the world’s first intelligent supercar, the Denza Z promises to challenge established luxury brands like Porsche, delivering superior speed and cutting-edge technology.
Equipped with BYD’s proprietary e3 platform, the Denza Z’s three motors—with one at the front and two at the rear—power the vehicle to accelerate from zero to 62 mph in as little as 1.96 seconds for the Racing variant. This makes it faster than the Porsche 911 Turbo S, which offers 701 hp and a slower sprint. The Denza Z reaches a top speed of 217 mph, considerably outpacing many rivals while maintaining competitive pricing.
The Denza Z will be available in three configurations: Coupe, Spider, and Racing. Ranging from 254 to 236 miles on a single charge depending on the model, the car uses a 76 kWh Blade Battery 2.0 and supports BYD’s Flash Charging system, capable of recharging from 10% to 70% in five minutes. Its 800V electrical architecture underpins this rapid recovery, setting new standards for electric supercars.
Chassis and driving dynamics benefit from a fully in-house steer-by-wire system and the Disus-M magnetorheological intelligent suspension, which adapts to road conditions for optimized handling and a unique “dance” capability over bumps. The car’s dimensions—nearly 4.8 meters in length and nearly 2 meters wide—place it close to vehicles like the Mercedes-AMG GT Coupe but with superior power output.
Inside, BYD equips the Denza Z with a modern digital cockpit, featuring an 8.8-inch driver display and a 12.8-inch infotainment screen integrated with Google services. Premium sound systems offer 12 speakers in the Coupe and Racing versions, and 10 speakers in the Spider, elevating the cabin experience to a theater-grade level.
In the UK market, prices start at £142,900 for the Coupe, £159,900 for the Spider, and £172,900 for the Racing variant. BYD plans to launch sales and open its first dedicated Denza retail stores by late summer, aiming to deliver the first units shortly thereafter.
