SLB has been appointed to manage the front-end engineering and design (FEED) studies for the Havstjerne carbon storage initiative developed by Harbour Energy in the North Sea. These studies will define the project’s detailed technical and economic framework ahead of the final investment decision.

The Havstjerne project focuses on capturing and storing carbon dioxide emissions beneath the North Sea seabed, supporting decarbonization goals by preventing CO2 release into the atmosphere. SLB’s role emphasizes evaluating seabed storage capacity, infrastructure design, and integration with upstream operations.

Leading FEED studies involves assessing engineering feasibility, cost estimates, and risk management strategies, all critical to securing regulatory approvals and attracting financing. SLB brings expertise in offshore energy systems and subsurface storage, positioning it to optimize project execution and timeline.

Harbour Energy, targeting emissions reduction through innovative carbon capture and storage (CCS) technologies, has prioritized Havstjerne as part of its strategy to support the energy transition. The project complements other North Sea CCS endeavors seeking to establish large-scale, safe, and reliable CO2 storage hubs.

The collaboration is expected to expedite Havstjerne’s development phase by providing detailed design solutions and identifying potential operational challenges early. This preparation aims to facilitate the next phase of construction and eventual commissioning of the CCS facility.
