Ford’s forthcoming electric pickup has emerged in new spy photos, markedly smaller and lower than the brand’s previously revealed full-size electric trucks. Seen parked next to a large Expedition SUV, the EV pickup’s size stands out as unusually compact, signaling Ford’s shift toward prioritizing efficiency and affordability over sheer size and power.
Testing images reveal a four-door truck that aligns more closely with the compact Maverick or classical Ranchero than the bulkier F-150 Lightning. Positioned between a Ranger-based Mazda B-Series and an F-150 during tests, the electric pickup illustrates its smaller footprint compared to traditional full-size pickups. The truck features a low ride height, a prominent grille camera setup, and a rear roof spoiler, indicating a modern design focused on aerodynamics.
Inside, the cabin previews point to a large touchscreen infotainment system, consistent with teaser footage linked to a hidden QR code found on the prototype. The vehicle will launch on Ford’s new Universal EV Platform and aims to start at roughly $30,000. Despite its compact dimensions, Ford claims it will offer more passenger room than a Toyota RAV4, underscoring the pickup’s efficient use of space.
The significance of this model lies in its potential to broaden the electric vehicle market by appealing to buyers seeking an affordable yet versatile pickup. The smaller size promises easier parking and maneuverability, lower ownership costs, and reduced environmental impact while still accommodating both passengers and cargo. For many households, electric pickups like this could deliver savings in fueling and maintenance costs compared to gasoline trucks.
EV ownership benefits also include reduced tailpipe emissions and lower greenhouse gas output, especially if these vehicles replace larger, less efficient models. Ford is embracing new manufacturing technologies, such as megacasting techniques and prismatic lithium-iron-phosphate (LFP) batteries, to keep costs down and enhance production efficiency. These innovations reflect a departure from Ford’s earlier, larger, and more expensive electric truck strategies toward a practical and accessible electric pickup.
