The Seattle Seahawks will change ownership hands as Vinod Khosla, a limited partner in the San Francisco 49ers, has struck a deal to buy the franchise for $9.6 billion, setting a new record for NFL franchise sales.

The Seahawks, initially purchased for $197 million in 1997 by the late Paul Allen, have been managed by a trust led by Allen’s sister since his passing in 2018. Paul Allen, co-founder of Microsoft, left behind a fortune estimated at over $20 billion. The transaction marks a major increase in the valuation of NFL teams, reflecting the growth and expanding financial scale of the league.

The Seahawks officially confirmed the sale through their social media channels, signaling the end of the trust’s management era and the beginning of new ownership under Khosla’s leadership.
