Slate Auto has unveiled its new electric pickup truck with a starting price of $24,950, positioning it as one of the most affordable options in the growing electric truck market. The company’s approach centers on simplicity and customization, offering a minimalist vehicle that forgoes standard EV luxuries like power windows and infotainment screens to keep costs low.

The truck, named the Blank Slate, features manual windows, no main display interface, and a two-door cab. It can be transformed into an SUV through modular accessories, which buyers can choose as their needs evolve. Slate plans to sell directly to consumers rather than through dealerships, allowing customers to preorder the vehicle with a deposit and later select additional options prior to delivery.

Charging flexibility is a key feature, as the Blank Slate supports standard wall outlets, dryer outlets, and Tesla Superchargers. The base model offers an estimated range of 205 miles on a single charge. Deliveries are projected to begin in late 2026, but specifications and availability may change as the truck remains in preproduction.

Slate Auto emphasizes affordability as a central tenet, targeting working-class buyers and fleets who face financial barriers with pricier electric trucks. The company’s CEO criticized the current EV market’s pricing, framing the Blank Slate as a practical vehicle whose cost and customization options respond to real-world needs rather than luxury trends.

Funding momentum reflects significant interest: the company raised $650 million in Series C funding and has reportedly amassed over 160,000 reservations. Despite this early demand, Slate’s challenge lies in proving whether its pared-down design and unique sales approach can translate into sustained market success when the trucks begin to be delivered.
