Elon Musk canceled a live CNBC interview just before it was set to begin, leaving tech correspondent Julia Boorstin unexpectedly on air without an opportunity to ask questions. The interview was expected to cover major topics including Tesla, SpaceX’s blockbuster initial public offering (IPO), and the debut of Musk’s newest artificial intelligence model, Grok 4.5.
The SpaceX IPO has drawn significant attention from Wall Street, hitting record valuations after underwriters exercised their overallotment options. Musk’s stake elevated him to become the world’s first trillionaire, marking an unprecedented moment in financial history. CNBC aimed to provide viewers with direct insight into the offering, which began trading in mid-June at $150 per share and recently approached $160.
The AI sector has also seen rapid developments alongside SpaceX’s debut. Musk’s AI company, xAI, recently revealed the Grok 4.5 model amid a flurry of announcements by competitors. OpenAI released multiple new iterations, and Meta introduced the Muse Spark 1.1 model focusing on coding and agentic tasks. Meanwhile, export restrictions on Anthropic’s Claude Fable 5 and Mythos 5 models were lifted, enabling the firm to resume international deployments.
Financial analysts from major firms including Morgan Stanley, JPMorgan, and Goldman Sachs have issued strong buy recommendations for SpaceX’s stock, projecting significant gains from recent closing prices. CNBC had planned to use the interview to explore these market dynamics directly with Musk.
Requests for comment from Musk’s team at SpaceX have not yet been answered, leaving the reason for the sudden postponement unclear.
