Tidal has introduced a new policy that prohibits monetization of music tracks created entirely by artificial intelligence, effective July 15. The streaming service aims to increase transparency by clearly labeling AI-generated songs, so listeners can differentiate them from human-created content.

The update addresses growing concerns about the use of AI in music production, especially regarding potential misuse such as impersonating artists or fraudulent uploads. Tidal will deploy automated tools to detect and remove AI-generated content that mimics performers or violates platform rules promptly.

This initiative complements Tidal’s ongoing commitment to supporting musicians financially. The platform already stands out for paying artists higher royalties per stream compared to dominant services like Spotify. For example, the indie band Los Campesinos revealed that Tidal streams of their album would have generated double the revenue compared to Spotify.

By setting clear boundaries around AI-generated music, Tidal seeks to protect artists’ creative rights while ensuring that AI content does not disrupt the industry’s economic balance. The platform’s approach highlights a growing industry effort to navigate technological advances without undermining human artistry.
